Super Nintendo Entertainment System
This system (also known as the SNES) is a fourth generation gaming console, and was released in November 1990. It is a 16-bit system. Four different versions of the gaming console were released, and you need to be a little careful which one you buy depending on where you live. The original version is called Famicon and is the one that was released in Japan. The US version was released in the USA in 1991, and the style of the case was different, so the games are a different shape. In 1992 the SNES UK was released for the European market, and is almost identical to the original Japanese Famicon except that the output is in PAL format. Lastly the SNES 101 was released into the Japanese and USA markets only, and is a lot smaller in size than any of its predecessors.
SNES has enjoyed massive commercial success, and quickly became the best selling video game console of its time, having sold more than 49 000 000 units globally.
Of the several Mario titles available on this platform, Super Mario World also went on to be one of the largest selling video games of all time.

Nintendo DS Game Console
Nintendo DS is a seventh generation game console that was released in 2004 by Nintendo. This system differed completely from its predecessors in that the gaming screens (there are 2 of them, 1 above and 1 below) are incorporated directly onto the hand held unit. The bottom one is also actually a touch screen. The Gameboy Advance is similar but does not have the touch screen at the bottom.
The DS also some new features not seen in previous consoles. It has a microphone built in to the casing, and also has wireless networking capabilities. The wireless feature allows multi-player play of many of the games when the players are physically close to each other.
As with all of the Nintendo consoles the DS has seen enormous success, with more than 70 000 000 sold around the world.

Nintendo Wii Game Console
The Nintendo Wii is the fifth in the line of video game consoles that Nintendo has released over the years. As with all of the others this console incorporates all of the latest technologies available at the time, and makes extensive use of wireless. The Nintendo Wii is a combination of two seventh generation systems.
The striking feature of the new Wii console is its wireless controller (dubbed the "Wii Remote"), which is utilized as a hand held pointing device and can detect movement in all three dimensions. This remote is used to control most aspects of all the games. New controllers are becoming available as well, most recently the Wii Fit has made an appearance.
Another handy feature is its internet connectivity capabilities.
This is going to be another big success story for Nintendo, with more than 22 million units already having been sold all over the world.
