General Information

This is the first video game in the Kart series, released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It has proven to be extremely popular, and with more than 8 000 000 copies already sold it is the third best seller for this console.

The plot of this game is to select one of the 8 classic SM characters to race go-karts around a Mario themed race track. Each of the individual characters has its own little quirks, for example one of them does not corner too well but is exceptionally fast on the straights. This game offers advanced graphics, and plenty of zany action, including throwing banana peels at opponents, and picking up turtle shells for use against foes. Like all SM games, the purpose of the different game objects are to either empower yourself, or to hinder your opponents.

In order to win you need to be the first to make 5 complete turns around the track.

The game world consists of 3 different tracks, with each track offering 2 different speed options. This is also a multi-player game, so you can race in battle mode against another human opponent, or else you can race against a computer generated racer. A worthy note to this game is it is the first game to have Bowser as a playable character.

To get a turbo start : As the last starting light begins to dim the press and hold down the "B" button.

Cheats

Reset all of the saved data : When you are on the "title screen" then press the following key combination - L R Y A

Reset all of the stored race times : When you are on the correct time trial screen that you wish to reset the times for, then press the following key combination - L R Y A

Make your racer small : This is quite a neat little cheat because it stops your opponents from being able to run you over in order to slow you down. When you are on the screen where you select your race character then press A while holding down the Y key. You can do the same thing again to toggle him bigger.
